An awesome character.

NOTE: this post has a lot of rambling in it and are in an uncertain order of events so just read it, and if you can't work out what I'm saying read the storyline of Hornblower and you'll understand..maybe.
Recently we have been watching a TV show called "Horatio Hornblower".
I fist heard about it Hornblower from Nana over at 'by the way' you can find Nana's post on Hornblower here.
After having read the G.A. Henty book 'a Roving Comission' which tells the story of a young Midshipman, Hornblower like something which would be worth while to watch and the fact that I can't watch a  lot of older kids's movies (I can watch some though not a lot) and the fact that people don't make a lot of movies which I can watch is quite annoying.
Of course I had to wait until it came from the library (I hate waiting) but after that it was worth the wait.

After watching the sixth episode of Hornblower(called retribution) last night I was heartbroken.....my favourite character had died.
My favourite character was a guy called Archie Kennedy, it might seem strange that Horatio wasn't my favourite because he is the main character and I admit he isn't though he's pretty cool too but I have this thing ( I think with secondary characters, the people who aren't as main as main but are still there).

I really liked it that he and Horatio were best friends, and Archie had a sense of humour plus, his smile was so nice.
I felt sorry for Archie in the first episode, he had Mr. Simpson being so horrible to him, his nightmares and such though a little strange were so sad and than at the end of the episode he was gone and it was all Mr. Simpson's fault he was gone! I don't like Mr. Simsp
He came back in the third episode (called the Duchess and the Devil) which I was SO glad about! And than because we didn't have the fourth episode of Hornblower we watched the fifth and sixth (we watched two cause the fifth was a cliffhanger)  and than he got killed. :(
Archie is currently in the top of me heroes list (you could probably make that out by how I am going on)
He's jumping off the cliff was very cool as well.

Archie however is more than cool....
Archie

  1. If the Hornblower novels have been turned into a kids' story, they've been watered down a lot. I read the books, and some parts, were well, touchy, I guess? I can't remember who I liked best, but it wasn't Horn himself.

  2. Note which you can feel free to destroy: Last month I was trying to rebrand my blog and shrank the url to "thatroundwindow" If my blog hasn't adjusted since March, you'll have to refollow it under that url.

also, I miss Saxon's blog. Is he in Uni or something?

  3. Hey JT, thanks for the comments.
I wouldn't class Hornlbowers as kid's films my younger brother who's turning twelve in a few weeks isn't allowed to watch them and he's seen Pirates of the Carribean so yeah, not classed as kid's films'
Two of the Hornblowers were rated PG's and the other six were rated PG 13 for "Adult Themes".
There was one scene we skipped and one 'embarassing' scene but other than that probably only violence was the only other thing in it. I was going to get the book's from the library than saw that they were 'adult' and after reading your comment I'm not so sure.
Have you heard of the Midshipmen Quinn series? They are another series of books about sailing and are really fun to read.
I checked your blog and I'm still following it.

As on the subject of Saxon's blogging, well to put it plainly he jsut hasn't been blogging. I'll tell him though that you miss his posts. :)
