Treasure Planet

Treasure Island is one of the most copied stories ever. You only need to look at the amount of different books (sequels and such) to see. There are also many movies about it. Some rather close to the book, some not so close. Today, I wanted to write about one of these not-so-close to the novel, movies: Treasure Planet.

Treasure Planet is one of my favourite animated movies. I hadn't seen it in ages until we finally bought it along with another Disney movie Atlantis (which does not beat Treasure Planet by the way, :P) I remember that I used to hate the movie. Jim's hair drove me insane, but then I came to like it.
Treasure Planet is a very entertaining movie and it deserves its 68% freshness on Rotten Tomatoes if not higher. It's a gripping movie and combines most of the important plot and characters from Treasure Island, but in a new and different way.

I love the character: James Hawkins, the son who dreams big and finally gets to fulfill his dream, a reckless boy who matures into a strong young man. Okay, so his hair, everybody hates his hair at the start, then you sort of just accept it and ignore it. His relationship with Silver is really deep, and like I said: how he changes from a rash young boy to an affectionate, caring young man.
Silver the cyborg, an ruthless pirate, who devlops a soft spot for 'Jimbo' as he calls him. I like him. :)
Dr. Dobbler, a combination of the Squire and Doctor from the orignal story. He though not the most helpful of characters is still loyal, and tries as best he can to do whatever is needed. He is also Jim's Mother's good friend.
The Captain: Amelia. It is actually very strange and funny all at the same time to see Emma Thompson voicing such a role.

Amelia is the ship's Captain, brave, capable, and not exactly the nicest when it comes to describing people. She's witty and rather bossy at times as well. But I love her!

I just have one more character to add: Morph. The adorable pink shape-shifting pet of John Silver. He's soooo cute! I'd love a little Morph!

The other thing I love is the song 'I'm Still Here' which is in the movie. I love that song! It is also a great part in the movie with Jim and Silver doing stuff together.

Anyway, to finish off this post. i would just like to say that Treasure Planet is a great movie, set in space, a interesting re-telling of Treasure Island and a good story by itself.

My Favourite Authors Part 1: Two Authors Who Make Me Laugh Out-Loud

 








A series of posts about Authors who's stories have captivated me, and who I find inspiring.

1. John Flanagan. The Ranger's Apprentice series.
So yeah, if you've read my blog long enough you should know that I love his Ranger's Apprentice series to bits. I have yet to own all of them, I'll get them all eventually! One of the best book series ever! Humour, action, great characters! Most disappointing was however, his Brotherband series. The first was good. The second wasn't even needed and the third was just like he saw this plot-line that he re-used over and over again. And now we're just reduced to Brotherband, either he'll need to get some better story-lines otherwise I am going to be vastly annoyed. And one day a book signing, yep! Great idea that! Just need to go to Sydney, there is bound to be one there! My favourite characters are obviously: Will Treaty, Alyss Mainwaring, Halt, Selethen, Erak Starfollower and Gilan. And just so everyone knows I thought that Evanlyn and Horace were pretty pathetic parents in The Royal Ranger. My least favourite book out of the series is the Lost Stories as it was just a collection of short stories, with no main bad guy. The Royal Ranger was also a bit slow because you have to go through all the same training that Will undertakes in the first book. Also there wasn't as much Halt or humour. :)

2. Rick Riordan. Percy Jackson series and Heroes of Olympus
Just this year, we discovered the movie. Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief, which though from a book to movie view is not the most loyal, was still a good movie. After that we discovered the books. The Percy Jackson series. Out of them all, I think my favourite would be the Battle of the Labyrinth. Strangely, I think that Percy Jackson and Hiccup from How To Train Your Dragon, actually are very much alike. Especially in the first movie when Percy first sees Mrs. Dodds. Percy Jackson, Nico Di Angelo, Annabeth Chase, and Tyson. They are the best characters.
I pretty much died of boredom in the Lost Hero. Percy wasn't in it! The other main characters who you really like, aren't really in it either! The most interesting chapters were from Leo's point of view. I had guessed that Percy was at the other camp at the end of the Lost Hero, and I read the first chapter of Son of Neptune right away.
The Heroes of Olympus is very different from the Percy Jackson series. One is written in first person, (PJ) the other in third (HOO) but they both have the same flavour of adventure and fun. The best chapters are from Percy's point of view and Annabeth's. My least favourite characters have got to be Piper, Jason and Frank. Coach Hedge seems to be trying to be humorous but falls a little flat. The Mark of Athena is currently my favourite HOO book. I am currently reading House of Hades and getting a little worried as I think that Nico is going to die! Ahhh! Oh, and Camp Half-Blood beats Camp Jupiter

A Recap on Life

Yep, just keeping praying because its the best medicine for busyness

So in some ways things had been very quiet, and in other ways its been rather busy.
Soooo, let see, what have I been doing?
We butchered one of the sheep/lambs as it had actually strangled itself, this was quite and interesting event, and we did have a few rather upset little kids because the lamb was of course a pet to them. :) Braedon was rather enthusiastic as I was the photographer at the start and I took a photo of him holding the severed head which I watched him thwack off with a cleaver. Anna-Lisa and her family have done this sort of thing before she was helping quite a lot with how we were to do it.
Last Wednesday(So not like, the 2 of October, whatever the Wednesday was :P) I baby-sat the three littlest of a family (who were asleep) and stayed there for about and hour and a half, I got paid $50 dollars, $28 of which I used to buy five second hand books. which included the Complete Father Brown, which I read a few pages of and will start to read more earnestly once I've finished The Return of Sherlock Holmes.

I love the fact that it says 'mega' it makes me so proud! 

Speaking of finishing books I finished the Royal Ranger yesterday evening. And that's it, that's the end of Ranger's Apprentice, and we are now stuck with Brotherband which less then half the greatness of Ranger's Apprentice, and yeah, I'm waiting for my own Will Treaty. :) I actually picked up a book that I read years ago, called 'Bows Against the Barons' which is a Robin Hood book, I think I'll flick through that, and then Robin will die, at the end and I hate it when he does that! :(

And while I'm on Sherlock I actually decided to delete the blog post with all the gifs of Sherlock and pictures for a few reasons. 1. Because it would just sit there, and sit there, and sit there, 2. It was taking the originality out of Sherlock, because I would go and look at the pictures and I would just get bored. and 3.Because if I have all the good pictures now, what will I do?

We finally went the Seminary again after not having gone since the day before the Wedding, it was awesome! I especially loved the hymn that we sang last it was to triumphant! And it was actually and Open Day at the Semianry and three of the seminarians were being made Lector's by the Bishop who was there as well. So we and lunch there, and sweets, and got a tour of the Seminary as we hadn't had one yet. :) A good time indeed!

Saxon recently got some new Christian music for us to listen to, one of the bands was called the Afters, and there music is pretty good. I highly recommend it.

Batman....I'm not sure if I 'll do a post on the Dark Knight and Dark Knight Rises, what do you think?

Well, I'd better go, don't wants peace and quiet in the study, which means me gone, not tapping with the keyboard. :)

Today is the day that the FINAL book in the Ranger's Apprentice series is being released. There are now twelve books in all. Twelve is a good solid number. It's good to have such a nice collection of stories about characters that you can relate to, feel for, and care for.
Dear Mr. Flanagan I just thought I'd let you know that after finishing the Royal Ranger I'll probably feel really, really unhappy. I lost my heart to Will Treaty at the age of nine.
“You've known him how long?" Malcolm asked.
"Since he was a small boy. I first noticed him when he slipped into Master Chubb's kitchen to steal some pies.
"So, what did you have to say to Will when you caught him stealing these pies?
"Oh, I didn't let on I was there. We rangers can be very unobtrusive when we choose. I remained out of sight and watched him. I thought he might have potential to be a ranger." Halt said.
Horace joined in "Why?"
Halt answered carefully. "Because he was excellent at moving from cover to cover. Chubb entered three times and never noticed him. So I thought that if he could achieve that with no training, he would make a good ranger."
"No" Horace spoke. "That's not what I meant. Why were you hiding in the kitchen in the first place?"
"I told you. I was watching Will to see if he had the potential to be a ranger."
"That's not what you said. You said that was the first time you noticed Will." "
"Does it matter?"
"Not really. Were you hiding from Chubb yourself and Will just turned up by coincidence?"
"And why would I be hiding from master Chubb in his own kitchen?"
"Well, there were freshly made pies on the windowsill, and you like pies, don't you?"
"Are you accusing me of trying to steal those pies?!?!"
"No, of course not. I just thought I'd give you the opportunity to confess."
After a pause, Halt continued. "You know, Horace, you used to be a most agreeable young man. Whatever happened to you?"
"I've spent to much time around you, I suppose."

The fact that you managed to blend humour, action, things like good always triumphing over evil. That's good. You are one of the best writers out there, and maybe just maybe, someday I'll get you to sign all of my Ranger's Apprentice books. I'll say how awesome they are. I'll tell you that your writing style is the one that I tried to emulate in my Robin Hood story. I'll tell you that your books were amazing, that they'll become classics. Then I'll ask if it was all really a story or if it had just one small grain of truth in it....And I'll wonder.

Because if you've read Ranger's Apprentice you've tried to walk as quietly and silently as possible, you've tried to have the same quick sharp wit that the characters have, you've gone and watched while other people are beating carpets and you've shouted continually 'Put some energy into it, boy!' or 'You missed a bit on the left side'. You'll use the term 'form of highway robbery' whenever you get the chance. You'll laugh outloud and people will ask you what you are laughing about, and you'll just say something like. "Halt said something funny." Or "Will was being impulsive, as usual." Or "Halt was breaking rules, and doing as he pleases."
You'll want a mottled grey and green cloak, but most of all, you'll want a silver oakleaf to go around you neck, to prove that you are what you say you are: A Royal Ranger.
And Mr. Flanagan, please do not disappoint me. I've been a fan of your books for the past six years or so. I am expecting nothing but the best......and well, I'm not going to be happy how it ends, good or not. Because its the end of something that I've loved for more than half my life. It's part of me. It's a series to go back to time and time again and realise how much you love them every single time.

Batman Begins,

So yes, here it finally is, Batman Begins! Ha! Did you think that it'd be all three movies? Well, things change.
And actually what happened was that I was sort of like 'Hey, Saxon. Do you want to help me write a Batman blog post?' And he was like 'Sure, yeah.' So I wrote the blog post (he suggested splitting it) and his comments are in blue. He was the one who suggested me watching Batman and though I wish he did, he used to blog over at 'A Knights Quest'  he hasn't blogged in two years, so yeah. Enjoy the first part! :D
Part 1: Batman Begins

I remember that when the movie started I squeaked 'I'm watching Batman' I heard the Batman music *Da Daaaaaaaa* (yes, I've heard some of the music before) and I began to watch.
Now, Saxon told me pretty much everything about Batman Begins. Like pretty much the entire story line.  And some cool quotes, because without cool quotes movies pretty boring...But that was okay, I thought it was awesome anyway. One thing I had trouble with was that I couldn't quite work out how they were going to pollute the water but that's okay. The other thing was that there was a lot of night-time fighting And that's why they choose to have their "group therapy sessions in broad daylight".... sorry couldn't resist  Vellvin continue: and stuff, and seeing as I was a bit tired I had a little trouble focusing.
Batman Begins was a pretty awesome movie. It had a big build-up but it was nice to have the back-story of him being afraid of bats, and his Mum and Dad getting shot (Wouldn't exactly call that nice but anyways) and him running away. I thought it was good how his Dad asked him why do we fall down.  His Father seemed like a pretty nice guy. It was kind of weird, having Gotham City which isn't even a real city, and not New York (Which gets blown to bits in every second movie action/superhero/scifi , partly I was annoyed and partly I liked it better that way.
Batman Begins is darker (Well he is the Dark Knight...and Bruce Wayne....and the hero Gotham deserves but not the one it needs aaaaand....)then any other super hero movie I have seen (excluding the second, and the third which I will watch soon). Even the Amazing Spiderman isn't as dark (Though it was an amazing movie :P), I believe. Though I've only seen it once all the way through, and it was dark nevertheless.

Well, a guy who dresses up like a bat clearly has issues.- Bruce Wayne/Batman
I really liked Bruce Wayne/Batman. He was pretty awesome, also he's very handsome. :) (*Groan*) I loved the fact that whenever you see him he's either in his Batman suit or a business suit. I've watched HISHE before and Batman is usually one of the primary characters in that, so I'd already heard sort of how his voice was. I know its Batman's voice and all but it was a little hard to take seriously anyway. I liked it how Batman is older than most of the other super heroes. He just seems more mature, more I don't know. Stable? In who he is and what he needs to do. Did anyone else grin when Earle rings him up and he replies with just the same line he used on him. That was funny! We need more Batmans don't we?

What is the point of all those push-ups if you can't even lift a ****** log?- Alfred (The answer being, as usual, because he's Batman)
Alfred. Now we all know how loyal British butlers are, don't we? Because Alfred is no exception. He's known Bruce all his life. I loved it in the flash backs when Alfred tells him when Bruce asks is he's given up on him and Alfred just like' Nu-uh!' type thing. He's fiercely loyal, he knows what to do and when to do it. He is sooooooo much better than Harry's butler from Spiderman! (Tell me about it!!) I mean, yeah that was soooooo helpful telling him that his father died from the glider. At least two years after it happened. Yeah, that was so helpful. Anyway, back to Batman. Alfred is one of the few people who knows that Bruce is Batman and all around we all just want to give him a hug, don't we?

Henri Ducard: You haven't beaten me. You've sacrificed sure footing for a killing stroke. He taps the ice with his sword, plunging Bruce into the water. (I loved this part out of the movie! It was so funny!)
Henri Ducard/ Ra's al Ghul in other words-villian
Okay, so Batman Begins had a few villians but the most primary of these was Henri, also known as Ra's al Ghul. So we all liked him at the start didn't we? He is Liam Neeson after all, and he Liam Neeson is Qui-Gon Jinn and everyone likes Qui-Gon Jinn. His voice is awesome and its so gentle, so its hard to have him as a bad guy. When he trains Bruce was very interesting, he was not merciful, not gentle, he was entirely the opposite, hard, unyielding, and unmerciful. And with a thirst for justice even of it means killing millions to boot...But if you think about it, that't probably what Bruce needed to get him to what he needed to be, namely Batman. I really liked it how he suddenly just 'showed up' at Bruce's party and then they're just talking casually like old friends as the people have/are leaving. Now, it was very much like a bad guy to leave six of his henchmen to finish the job of killing the hero, obviously it didn't work, and it's never going to work for any bad guy. Batman meets him on the train, and knocks him down, so that he crashes with the train. And that's the end of him. Or is it?

Rachel Dawes- Basically the 'heroine' of Batman Begins. Best friend of Bruce Wayne when they were children, she tried to slap some sense into him after Chill's trial (literally) and she has no qualms about telling him what she thinks of him.

I like the fact that she's rather spunky and not stupid, she thinks Scarecrow is doing something fishy and she's ready to find out what it is

Commissioner Gordon- The uncorrupt police officer, who believes in Batman, even when others don't. He's out there to do good, and he comforts Bruce the night his parents die. He's pretty cool, always seroius and with a few good lines as well. 


Scarecrow-villian and mad scientist, you know its funny how he's still running around in the Dark Knight Rises and no one knows what happens to him at the end. He is soooo irritating, and a little loony as well.  "Death. By exile."


Lucius Fox. Okay, so we all like him. He's rather witty, and smart and knows what he's doing in every situation. He helps Bruce with his high-tech weapons and walks him through them. He also, though Bruce does not say it to his face, suspect he is Batman.  ("The Tumbler? Oh, you wouldn't ne interested in that...")

There's something happening over at the party tree...

September 22! Something that we have celebrated every year since 2009 I believe: Bilbo's birthday party! Let's not forget Frodo while we're at. :) We'll be playing a few games, having a hobbitish dinner, and watching the introduction of the Hobbit and the party scene with the little kids as they aren't old enough to watch the whole movies. And we'll get to see Pippin and Merry stealing the firework which is always a lot of fun to watch! :)

Dropping by..

Okay, just dropping by to say that I've left a little poll for everyone to do. Sherlock vs. Doctor Who. Good fun, hey? I know who I'll be voting for. It ends on 1st of October. Coincidently, it is also the day that The Royal Ranger is released.  And hopefully I'll be watching the Dark Knight Rises tonight or tomorrow night. It depends on when the swing set is finished. Did I mention that mostly Dad and Saxon are making this huge swing set so that even big kids can go on it?! Yep, it is amazing. Maybe I'll post a picture of it.

While I'm on the subject, I've got this huge amount of gifs and pictures of Sherlock, which have been sitting in my dashboard for ages. I'm probably going to publish it once I've actually written something, (yeah, its got absolutely no words yet, except for its title: My Introduction to Mr. Sherlock Holmes) but would it bother you if the pictures far outnumbered the amount of text? Just wondering.

And I've been writing some of my Batman post. Slowly but surely. Does anyone else think its awesome that Batman owns a Lamborghini? I do. :)

Dadadadada! B...

Hey guys! How's things? This past week has been really long. Little kids haven't been feeling well and Spring is acting more like Autumn/Winter, mostly Winter.
Guess what I watched last night?

Yep! Batman Begins! It was pretty cool! I really like Batman/Bruce Wayne he was awesome! So I already knew the basic story-line from my brother who told we all about it one night when we were making beds together. Anyway, I'm watching the Dark Knight and then hopefully the Dark Knight Rises tomorrow night. Except for someone (Saxon) who has a strange idea that we should watch BOTH of them tonight! Hopefully I'll do a blogs post on the three once I've seen them. Oh, yeah and I'm gonna boo the Joker, just so everyone knows. It is kind of called the Dark Knight isn't it? Not 'The Joker'

That thing, called feeling content. It's out there, y'know. :)

So Sundays are my favourite day of the week. I like Friday evenings, I like Saturday mornings, but Sunday wins, hands down. Okay, but I doooooo stress out before we get to Mass. I'm like that. I hate to be late.

Today was a beautiful day. On Friday we were invited to the baptism of a new baby girl by a family we know. We accepted of course and went to the baptism, and the mass after it. Both were in Latin and both were very nice. I actually managed to keep up with pretty much everything they were saying this time! I remember a few years ago I was extremely upset because I couldn't work out where we were up to in the mass book. I was actually like that a little bit a few weeks ago when we went to Latin mass but one of the best things about coming from a large family is that someone at least knows where we're up to. :)
After the baptism and mass, we chatted outside for a bit and got to see the little baby girl who's big day it was to be baptised. We also got to see another lady's baby who we hadn't seen yet, and another sweet adorable baby girl who is a yeah, absolutely adorable.
We were invited back to the special little baby's family's house and had lunch and everything like that. Great socialising and it was a beautiful day to be doing it as well. True it was getting a little hot in the afternoon but that's beside the point. :)
We stayed for about three and a half hours and I think that Mr and Mrs. (insert name) the Father and Mother of the little baby girl being baptised were wonderful hosts. And today was their wedding anniversary as well!
On the way back home I relaxed in the middle of the car. Listening to the I-Pod which was playing Eddie and the Cruisers songs. Some of them are so bittersweet. Like  'A Matter Of Time' but my favourite has to be

'Open Road' if you haven't heard these songs then go wash your mouth out with soap, cos they're amazing.

After coming home I grabbed Son Of Neptune and settled down outside on the grass, everyone was pretty exhausted and just went and did their own thing. I actually stopped for a little bit and did sword fighting with Arwen and Trahaearn. Arwen kept on telling me how we needed to just 'concentrate'. :) After it got too cold outside I went upstairs and put on a jumper and sat on my bed and read some more. I've got about 70 pages to go before I finish Son Of Neptune and move on to Mark of Athena, I love Ella, she is so adorable! She's a harpy, but she great.

And can I just say I love this quote that Mars says?

And let me just say a great improvement after The Lost Hero and all that stuff about Leo, Jason and Piper. I much prefer Percy, Hazel and Frank. Gaia is such an annoying character, and Mars saying that Frank is BETTER than Percy?!?! I'll punch him in the face for that. :P And on a side note, I've learned more Greek/Roman mythology from reading Percy Jackson and the Heroes of Olympus books than anything else. Besides the fact that I hate Greek and Roman myths. The gods were also so immoral and had no standards.

But Percy Jackson I can do. :)
And so after having dinner I'm sitting here. Writing this blog post. Life's been busy. Enjoying Spring (nananananhhhh to all those people who hate colder months in your faces I'm having Spring. But don't worry, probably back in January I'll be complaining about the heat.

Mum's been reading us Big John's Secret, a book she read to us older kids years ago, but one the little kids have never heard. :) Crusades, castles, pages, swords, medieval= Pure Awesomeness. :) I can't wait to find out what happens next as I can't remember all of the story, only a little bit.

The Australian election was yesterday. I'm glad we kicked Rudd out but Liberal wasn't what I had in mind. I'd prefer DLP, for instance. Just gotta pray that its the right thing and they do a better job than Labour. Tony Abbott will be fun to draw on though, because we can add glasses, and rotten teeth, and ear piercings and stuff. :) And please tell me you actually have drawn on some politicians and just people in the newspaper and in magazines? Because it is so much fun.

Saxon sent me a couple of funny Assassin's Creed pictures on Facebook and we (Saxon, Rogan, a little bit of Eden, and I had a look. They are on a Facebook page but I wouldn't recommend the page as its got some language kind of stuff.

Speaking of Assassin's Creed has anyone seen any of the Youtube videos on Black Flag? What do you think of it.

 Edwards grown on me I've gotta admit. But he looks better with his hood off. :) Also got our Mum to play Assasin's Creed 3 last night for about ten minutes. We were sort of showing her everything. Like pick-pocketing people, killing peopel and throwing their bodies off the wharves into the water and that srot of stuff. She even killed a few innocent civilians. :) She did say she was getting bored, but I found that it was just sssooooooooooo funny!
Autumn was home for Friday even and all of Saturday, she left on the 12:30 am train and is safely back in Sydney. :)
Hoping for a productive week of school and (hopefully) having out awesome swing set finished on the weekend. Along with a visit from someone we haven't talked to much this year.
