A Slice of Pizza

Most people title posts like this, 'A Slice of Life' me, I thought it would be cooler to call it what it is now. After pizza is very agreeable, although it could have been a slice of fudge as well, so many delectable choices. :)
Anyway, so what's been happening with me? Hmm, lots of things really.
1. I finished House of Hades. Yes, that book that I was really really annoyed and disgusted with. Thank Goodness I finally have, because I hate to have books that I've only half read hanging around.
2. Watched the last two Hornblower episodes with Rogan. We both agree that Maria is actually a better character than the french girl (I can't even remember her name). And her making him gloves before he leaves. Well, we were both saying 'Aww' when she gave them to him. But we were also about ready to give him a talking to in Duty until the end...then it was much better though it is not one of my favourites.

And we both really like Mr. Bush.

3. Been going in the pool a lot. And enjoying it. It's been really nice as the last few days have been really hot about 40.
4. Watched the last episode of Season 3 of Sherlock. I actually didn't enjoy it that much as it had some stuff in it that I didn't think needed to be in there. My favourite part was the Sherlock and Mycroft moment when they are at their parents' house and their mother almost catches them smoking and Mycroft tells Sherlock that he really does care about him. Also the reconciliation between John and Mary, that was hands down, the best part out of it all. Out of the three I think that probably The Sign of Three was my favourite. I absolutely loved Sherlock's speech. And him organising the page boy and telling a friend of Marys that he had been dropped to casual friend was really funny. Also, it probably had the best mystery out of the three. I did love the first episode but the second is the best I think all round.

Also that cliff-hanger? Well, I'm certainly not as interested or emotionally surprised and upset like I was for Reichebach Fall. I mean, BBC confirmed Moriarty to be dead and he's got to be dead. Otherwise Sherlock will just turn into one of those stupid T.V. shows where there is the same bad guy over and over again. Also, not a two year wait please, a year, no more. That's all I ask.  Also, they've been planning seasons 4&5 one very excited girl here! :D

5. Been looking at my drafts. I've got about thirty-six of them and I really need to work on some of them.
6. I've also been making skirts for us girls. Mum also wants one, I've made one for me and Arwen and I've cut out and over-locked almost all of Moran and Myffwyn's skirts. Mum also wants one so busy, busy.
7. Getting excited for a sleepover which me and Eden have organised this Monday night, we are planning on watching movies and staying awake as long as possible, and then crashing. It will be interesting to see how long I last. :)
8. I've got a dead-line to finish TT but actually I haven't done very much reading of it. Hmph, anyway, but I am reading a really nice book by Chrisitne Pope which Mum got off Kindle for me. It's surprisingly more mature than I thought it would be, but I am loving reading it anyway. And I really love Lord Shaine, he's such a sweetie!

9. We celebrated Eden's 18th Birthday last Saturday. Her birthday is actually in July but there were some complications of getting a date that suited everyone. It was pretty exhausting, but nice, and everyone had to wear a mask. Me and Rogan also dressed up as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John H. Watson, though we didn't get any pictures and the trench coat, then suit coat, were really boiling so it didn't last long. I even had band-aids for nicotine patches and Rogan had a gun, so it was very fun. :) Also, Mum has a pink phone so I walked around with that a little. And we were trying to find a serial killer as well, that's why we were there, investigating.

10. I went and saw Frozen for the second time the other day, I'd already seen it once and then Saxon because he was going crazy as we were listening to the songs from it and quoting, wanted to go and see it, and he generously took Rogan and I along with him. As it turned out, we sat right down the front, it was very interesting as we always try and get the back seats, but the cinema was packed. Anyway, I'll hopefully have a post on Frozen up soon. I enjoyed it much more the second time rather than the first. Thank you Saxon for taking us!

Anyway, I'd better go. That's just an update of what's been going on, hopefully I'll post again soon, but yeah anyway, see you guys!

My Favourite Authors Part 1: Two Authors Who Make Me Laugh Out-Loud

 








A series of posts about Authors who's stories have captivated me, and who I find inspiring.

1. John Flanagan. The Ranger's Apprentice series.
So yeah, if you've read my blog long enough you should know that I love his Ranger's Apprentice series to bits. I have yet to own all of them, I'll get them all eventually! One of the best book series ever! Humour, action, great characters! Most disappointing was however, his Brotherband series. The first was good. The second wasn't even needed and the third was just like he saw this plot-line that he re-used over and over again. And now we're just reduced to Brotherband, either he'll need to get some better story-lines otherwise I am going to be vastly annoyed. And one day a book signing, yep! Great idea that! Just need to go to Sydney, there is bound to be one there! My favourite characters are obviously: Will Treaty, Alyss Mainwaring, Halt, Selethen, Erak Starfollower and Gilan. And just so everyone knows I thought that Evanlyn and Horace were pretty pathetic parents in The Royal Ranger. My least favourite book out of the series is the Lost Stories as it was just a collection of short stories, with no main bad guy. The Royal Ranger was also a bit slow because you have to go through all the same training that Will undertakes in the first book. Also there wasn't as much Halt or humour. :)

2. Rick Riordan. Percy Jackson series and Heroes of Olympus
Just this year, we discovered the movie. Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief, which though from a book to movie view is not the most loyal, was still a good movie. After that we discovered the books. The Percy Jackson series. Out of them all, I think my favourite would be the Battle of the Labyrinth. Strangely, I think that Percy Jackson and Hiccup from How To Train Your Dragon, actually are very much alike. Especially in the first movie when Percy first sees Mrs. Dodds. Percy Jackson, Nico Di Angelo, Annabeth Chase, and Tyson. They are the best characters.
I pretty much died of boredom in the Lost Hero. Percy wasn't in it! The other main characters who you really like, aren't really in it either! The most interesting chapters were from Leo's point of view. I had guessed that Percy was at the other camp at the end of the Lost Hero, and I read the first chapter of Son of Neptune right away.
The Heroes of Olympus is very different from the Percy Jackson series. One is written in first person, (PJ) the other in third (HOO) but they both have the same flavour of adventure and fun. The best chapters are from Percy's point of view and Annabeth's. My least favourite characters have got to be Piper, Jason and Frank. Coach Hedge seems to be trying to be humorous but falls a little flat. The Mark of Athena is currently my favourite HOO book. I am currently reading House of Hades and getting a little worried as I think that Nico is going to die! Ahhh! Oh, and Camp Half-Blood beats Camp Jupiter

Today is the day that the FINAL book in the Ranger's Apprentice series is being released. There are now twelve books in all. Twelve is a good solid number. It's good to have such a nice collection of stories about characters that you can relate to, feel for, and care for.
Dear Mr. Flanagan I just thought I'd let you know that after finishing the Royal Ranger I'll probably feel really, really unhappy. I lost my heart to Will Treaty at the age of nine.
“You've known him how long?" Malcolm asked.
"Since he was a small boy. I first noticed him when he slipped into Master Chubb's kitchen to steal some pies.
"So, what did you have to say to Will when you caught him stealing these pies?
"Oh, I didn't let on I was there. We rangers can be very unobtrusive when we choose. I remained out of sight and watched him. I thought he might have potential to be a ranger." Halt said.
Horace joined in "Why?"
Halt answered carefully. "Because he was excellent at moving from cover to cover. Chubb entered three times and never noticed him. So I thought that if he could achieve that with no training, he would make a good ranger."
"No" Horace spoke. "That's not what I meant. Why were you hiding in the kitchen in the first place?"
"I told you. I was watching Will to see if he had the potential to be a ranger."
"That's not what you said. You said that was the first time you noticed Will." "
"Does it matter?"
"Not really. Were you hiding from Chubb yourself and Will just turned up by coincidence?"
"And why would I be hiding from master Chubb in his own kitchen?"
"Well, there were freshly made pies on the windowsill, and you like pies, don't you?"
"Are you accusing me of trying to steal those pies?!?!"
"No, of course not. I just thought I'd give you the opportunity to confess."
After a pause, Halt continued. "You know, Horace, you used to be a most agreeable young man. Whatever happened to you?"
"I've spent to much time around you, I suppose."

The fact that you managed to blend humour, action, things like good always triumphing over evil. That's good. You are one of the best writers out there, and maybe just maybe, someday I'll get you to sign all of my Ranger's Apprentice books. I'll say how awesome they are. I'll tell you that your writing style is the one that I tried to emulate in my Robin Hood story. I'll tell you that your books were amazing, that they'll become classics. Then I'll ask if it was all really a story or if it had just one small grain of truth in it....And I'll wonder.

Because if you've read Ranger's Apprentice you've tried to walk as quietly and silently as possible, you've tried to have the same quick sharp wit that the characters have, you've gone and watched while other people are beating carpets and you've shouted continually 'Put some energy into it, boy!' or 'You missed a bit on the left side'. You'll use the term 'form of highway robbery' whenever you get the chance. You'll laugh outloud and people will ask you what you are laughing about, and you'll just say something like. "Halt said something funny." Or "Will was being impulsive, as usual." Or "Halt was breaking rules, and doing as he pleases."
You'll want a mottled grey and green cloak, but most of all, you'll want a silver oakleaf to go around you neck, to prove that you are what you say you are: A Royal Ranger.
And Mr. Flanagan, please do not disappoint me. I've been a fan of your books for the past six years or so. I am expecting nothing but the best......and well, I'm not going to be happy how it ends, good or not. Because its the end of something that I've loved for more than half my life. It's part of me. It's a series to go back to time and time again and realise how much you love them every single time.

I'm excited!!!

Me and Rogan are very excited for 'Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters' which is being released at the movies in September. I'm so excited!! I hope it is better than te first one like, from book to movie, type thing. :) And Tyson's in it! Tyson is soooooo cute! Gosh, I sound like Aphrodite talking to Percy in TTC. :)

I AM VERY EXCITED!!! I'm up to book three in the five books, oh yeah and I'm going to go see 'Man of Steel' tomorrow with my two older sisters. We are having a 'sisters day out' and I'm hoping we'll have a lot of fun.

What on earth have I been doing???????

I sort of just disappeared and to me, after blogging so consistently on here for the past few months it felt a little bit strange, but it was good anyway.
So what have I been doing? What has been happening?


Well reading is one of the things I have been doing. Okay and yeah, I've only been reading one series of books recently. In fact that picture of me you see above this is me finishing the second in the series. The series is 'The Percy Jackson and the Olympians'. Probably the thing that started us with reading these books was watching the movie based on the first book. And Anna-Lisa was the one who suggested watching it, and even showed me and Eden the trailer of it, when we went down for the Lady's night and Kitchen Tea. We didn't get around to watching it but Eden wanted to get it from the Video shop and we watched. I've seen it three times now. Gosh, that's a lot of times since just before the wedding. I've got to admit, i have never been a big fan of reading the Greek myths. Never.

The idea of Gods and Goddesses was just an idea which I seriously disagreed with, even if the stories are not true. The Gods were always selfish, 'all about them' type attitude. And that's an outsiders opinion, just so you know. The Percy Jackson series is good, entertaining, funny (Hades is really funny) and awesome (like who doesn't like the idea of a pen that turns into a sword?)

What else? Well, I've been listening to this really cool aduibook written by Gordon Korman. It's called Unsinkable and there are two other books after Unsinkable (which I finished today). So I want my brother to put the

nest book on Mum's I-Pod so I can listen to it! Daniels not dead!!!!! :D And I like Paddy, and Alfie. Sophie is alright and I don't like Julia very much at all!

Coughing, yep I've had a cough and runny nose and everything else that happens when you have a cold. And so yep, coughing still.



I watched MIB for the first time ever the other night. It was very entertaining and funny. 'I'm sorry, was that your auntie?' Best line! :D

Plotting out cast for a Rangers Apprentice movie if we (Eden, Saxon, Rogan, and I, and Mum a bit too) ever had the budget and the means to do it. It's alright you know we've got Christian Bale as Gilan, Benedict Cumberbatch as Keren, Christopher Lee as Tennyson, probably Robert Downey jr. as Halt, Jennifer Lawrence as Alyss, James Franco as Horace, Hugh Jackman as Erak,  Russel Crowe's Slagor, Richard Armitage is Svengal, Will Smith is Selethen and yeah you get the idea. We'll need like a six-hundred-million-dollar budget. Oh yeah, and we'll need some epic music? Who knows how much that'll cost! :D But it was very, very fun!

This was from another day when Mum was reading it to him but nevertheless he was very enraptured anyway. :) 

Reading aloud to my little borther Trahaearn yesterday. I even put him to sleep! We read it like six times! The Boy with a Drum, I mean and I coughed a bit as well Not to mention we had read a few books before that!
And yes, that's it! Besides school and stuff like that.

Curtain up. Enter Mr. Henty.

I am a book aholic so its no wonder that I post about books. Today is about a author who you might not of heard of. Mr. Henty is a great author. He wrote one-hundred and twenty-two books in all, and we them. In all of the great collection I have read maybe seven of them, or to be more precise, I have read six of them and I finished the seventh a few days ago :) Mr. Henty wrote different books set in different time periods in history.

The Henty book which I just finished reading is called the Lion of St. Mark and recounts the time when Venice was perilously close to be conquered by (I think) the combined forces of Genoa, France and Padua. And the story is told through the experiences of Francis Hammond, a young man who is following in his father's footsteps of being a successful merchant. There are consperacies, pirates, battles with Genoa, escapes and rescues all in all a wonderful book.

A Roving Comission was the Henty which first led me to watching Hornblower and reading Midshipmen Quinn by Showell Styles. It is centered during the time the Negro's rebelled against their oners and all of this is witnessed by a young Midshipmen by the name of Nathaniel Glover. The book started off right with Nathaniel telling a new Midshipmen when he calls him Nathaniel that he has gotten into various scrapes where his name has been concerned and prefers is when people call him Nat.

Winning his Spurs was the (I think) third Henty book I read. It was set in the Crusades and Saxon and Eden told me it was good. I liked it but don't remember that much about it. It had Robin Hood and his merry men in it I remeber that and also the main character got caught by Saracens and escaped and than, after saving King Richard's life he went back home to his lands and had to fight to get them back.
In Freedom's Cause I read In Freedom's Cause: A story of Wallace and Bruce a few years ago. It was the second Henty I read and I was trying to find the 'thinner' henty books because at that time I really didn't like his books. They all seemed such big books and now, I know that their size is about average. I don't remember (once again) that much about it. The made up character was one of William Wallace' and than Robert the Bruce' most trusted men. His name is Archie Forbes, a young Scottish Noblemen who helps both William Wallace and Robert the Bruce in defence of Scotland. 

The Cat of Bubastes has been on my list of favorutie books for years now. I first remember picking it because it was a small Henty and I was required to read a Henty book. I managed to finish it in about a day. It's set in Egypt and I don't remember really much at all about it except that I found it really interesting to read. My favourite character was the main guys friend. Sorry I couldn't remember any of the names, it's just been so long since I read it.

Redskin and Cowboy was a really fun Henty to read. I liked it because it was Cowboys and (of course) indians. But its not all about the battles with Indians you see, through the eyes of Hugh, a young man from England, the many going on's off a ranch. Fires, branding cows, chasing and rounding up cows and all that sort of thing. It also has gold hunting in it and was very entertaining to read.

In Rujub the Juggler the main characters name is Bathurst he has a moustache and strange as it seems, is terrified by the sound of guns. It's set in India just before and during the Sepoy uprising and although Bathurst is in it Miss Hannay is the person the book revolves more around. One day Bathurst saves a Jugglers daughter from a tiger attacking it with a whip and because of that earns the Jugglers thanks and promise that if he is in need of help he will be assisted. I really liked the Doctor, he was my favourite character I do believe as he was frank and spoke his mind and was very affectionate to both Bathurst and Miss Hannay. I also liked the Major(it was sad when he got killed) but I got really fed up with Bathurst all through the book I was thinking, 'Don't you see that you aren't a coward?' He drove me insane as you can probably imagine.

The Royal Diaries.

We have a series of books in our home which are called the royal diaries. I have read only a few of them and my favourite of them all is Isabel of Spain. But perhaps I should elaborate. The royal diaries are diaries written (fictionally of course) about one of the princess of various countries in different time periods. For instance we have Queen Elizabeth the First. I didn't finish her royal diary because I didn't like it very much.
I remember when Mum has some double copies of a few of these books and I wanted to own the double copy of 

Anastasia because I was fascinated by her now after owning her book for ages I still haven't read it all the way through and have been trying unsuccessfully to trade my Anastasia book for Eden's double copy of Isabel which she scored which i really want because Isabel is my favourite as I mentioned above.

The books were are out of print but we have most of them and out of the whole series I've read Catherine:The Great Journey. A diary of Catherine the great before she became the ruler of Russia which is a very good diary though it is a little sad as well. I have read Mary Queen of Scots: Queen without a country. Another which I read which is one of my favourites is Eleanor: Crown Jewel of Aquitaine. Mary Queen of Scots, Catherine and Eleanor probably all come in second

Mary I felt sorry for. Her Mother couldn't be with her because she was busy in Scotland and I thought that she was a very cool person. Catherine de Medici at the end was so touched. Made me smile.

Eleanor is a nice one to read though I find she's a bit of a flirt. But it's in Medieval times and so yeah, its cool. 

I really, really want to get Kristina which sounds so cool! The Girl King, that is such a cool title. :)

I am not as enthusiastic about the Chinese, Japanese, African, islands, diaries because they have confusing dates and I usually find that very irritating but I was happy to read 

Jahanara because she was interesting it was very different though anyway. 

I tried to read 

Sondok but I got very easily bored with her story.

Catherine is one of my most favourite of the favourites! It's sad though how her Mother doesn't really care about her but her royal diary is a very fun one to read. Her mastering the Russian tongue is another of my things I liked about reading her diary. Her future husband seemed very boring though. 

Isabel is my absolute fav! Absolute indeed! Her whole thing with getting betrothed to the wrong guy is so fun to read about and her organising her betrothal to Ferdinand is cool as well. I really like the Archbishop in it as well. He seemed kind of like a nice old Grandfather. It's sad how her brother died. You can tell in her diary that she's Catholic so thumbs up!

I started to read Elizabeth and than stopped, she gave me a bad vibe.

 And seriously she is very irritating. 

Marie Antoinette was good which surprised me. I liked her mother lots though there were some times when I thought something she did wasn't good. The whole French court made me shiver the hygiene and the stupid ceremonies strike me as a waste of time. No wonder the French Revolution came about.

I have succeeded!

Yes, I did it! I finally did it! Veni,Vidi, Vici in the words of Julius Caesar.
I finished reading Pride and Prejudice on Tuesday night and I was very pleased with myself. :) It was a good book.
I had had it in my book basket where I keep all my books I am reading at the time for a while and had been reading it and than hadn't and than finally had and finished it.
A little of the time I couldn't work out what they were saying don't get me wrong Jane Austen was a great author but at one point where I thought Bingley had left the room and he was still there I was surprised.
At other intervals I just continued down the page and worked out what was going on.

It was a great book although if you go reading it all in one hit you'll get pretty bored of it and have the reaction of 'read it, it was boring, don't remember anything about it really.' I understand how it got to be a classic and though there are other Austen novels out there I think that P&P will always remain my favorite if ever I read any of her other novels.

It was fun to say 'I'm going to go and read this book from my dear cousin' just before I was about to sit down and read P&P because actually I am distantly related on my paternal side to Jane Austen. ;) Really.
Yeah, so that was fun to say. Would you believe I really didn't mind Lady Catherine De Bourgh the first time Lizzy meets her? No, I didn't mind her at all but when she came and told Lizzy off at almost the end of the book I was thinking 'mind your own business.' kind of thing. You get the idea.

The first proposal was so nice and yet so heartbreaking and when Lizzy was reading the letter from Mr. Darcy  and than it was lights out for me and I was really annoyed because it was one of the best parts.
Mrs. Bennet was just as she was in the BBC version, several of her lines and things she said made me laugh out loud. Lydia was just as stupid and loud-mouthed as she was in BBC and I think that she was as usual the Lydia I have always known. She deserved Wickham. I liked it how it says at the end of the book that Kitty, who was no longer under Lydia's influence became a very nice person.

Jane is just the same as in BBC sweet, gentle, always thinking the best of everyone and most of all loving Bingley.
Mr. Bingley has always been a favourite of mine in BBC and I wasn't disappointed in the book either he was still the same lovable character I had always know him to be.
I don't know if it was that Lizzy and Mr. Darcy were different in the books or what, but they WERE great and it was so awesome with how Darcy came to hold his pride in check and Lizzy her prejudice.
I was disappointed that Georgiana was only mentioned or actually in the book a few times because I really like her in BBC 'cause she's so nice!

And of course because I just finished reading P&P guess what we are watching us three eldest girls and Saxon when he wants to pop in? You guessed it P&P '95 the 'good version' as we call it. What can I say that has been the P&P which has always been around for all of us in my family and frankly in my opinion even if I watch all the other P&P adaptation's I think it will still be my favourite because honestly can any other P&P compete with it?
No, honestly none can. Me and Autumn were even blowing kisses at Mr. Bingley and Mr. Darcy, doing double thumbs up when we saw Lizzy and/or Jane we also gave Mrs. Bennet one thumb up 'cause she is rather amusing and Mrs. Hurst got a wave which means she's alright. WE clapped for Miss Bingley once when she warns Lizzy about Wickham and his so called story and gave Wickham double thumbs down and Lydia one thumbs down. So that is what I have been doing. We plan to get the 2005 P&P out from the library and than just be able to say how

terrible it is though we have seen it once a few years back. All I can remember is that Mr. Bennet was described by all of us as a guy who looked like a drunk. :P
