Let's Talk About Some Glass Slippers....

Hi everyone. How have you all been? Today I am finally getting around to reviewing Disney's live-action version of Cinderella. I am so glad I got to see it at the movies! :D
Scroll down to the end if you don't want spoilers.

So where do I begin? I really really wanted to see this at the movies. Seriously I watched the trailer about a million times and got really hyped because of it. But I wanted to wait for Autumn and Eden to come home from college to watch it with them. Also, it was getting close to the end of lent.
Anyway, as it turned out, we all ended up going to see it! Including Mummy and Daddy and Braedon and Anna-Lisa and Balian! His first movie at the movies I think. :D
It was so much fun!

Okay, just so everyone knows, I think that Cinderella is way better than the new adaptation of both Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. Both of those are a lot darker and I enjoyed Cinderella's story and characters much more. Because of how both Snow White and Maleficent had been so different from their originals I had also expected Cinderella to be so. So I was a little disappointed in that area. But honestly guys, it was also such a great movie!

It follows the animated Disney very closely but also it added other things in like Ella's mother (who was awesome!) and lots of Kit hem Prince Charming!

'Have courage and be kind' This was such a wonderful quote from Ella's mother and also something that can be used in the every day. And Ella truly does live it. She was a warm-hearted, loving character. Even though the mice in the movie didn't actually talk I loved it how she set them up a table for them to eat on. She was very courageous, always remembering what her Mother told her. I was actually a little surprised when her fairy Godmother showed up and she said that there was no such thing, or something along those lines! After all her mother talked to her about all of that before she died, and I thought that she believed that too.
She had some beautiful clothes. I mean I would honestly love to own all of her dresses. Even her every day one! Although I didn't her original dress for the ball. Her ball dress was fantastic!!! But I think that out of them all I loved her wedding dress the best. I know it sounds weird, right?
I really liked it how she was miffed at Kit when she worked out that he was actually the Prince. Because he HAD told her the truth. :P The part where they went to the garden and there was the swing was lovely! And then when she is found at almost at the end, singing up in her attic, that was nice, too.

Kit was my favourite character. He was a strong character and it was really awesome how he actually respected his father. And he talked! Prince Charming talks? Never! I loved it how he used Ella's words when he is speaking to the Grand Duke. 'Just because it's done doesn't mean it's what should be done.' And then he does this little grin thing. :D I think that my favourite bit with Kit was when his father was dying, and you see that deep down inside he really is just a boy compared to his father, and he just lies down beside his father as he is dying. That honestly I have to say, was very emotional for me, :) It was my favourite bit out of the entire movie. :) I also enjoyed how he became the King because usually, in fairy tales, he's only a Prince. Being King seemed really something more mature and I liked that. Oh! And he totally liked Ella from the moment he met her. Just saying!
I was really glad that he didn't actually stay behind at the castle when the Grand Duke went about on his quest with the glass slipper. I asked my six-year-old sister Arwen what her favourite bit was and she said. 'When he was disguised!' I liked that he went out and found Ella himself. Kit was awesome. I had expected more of him, but I must say that he did do a very good job anyway. :)

It doesn't exactly say carriage...

The Fairy Godmother was funny! The day after we went and saw it Rogan and Autumn were making me laugh saying. 'I'm your Hairy Dogfather.' Although to be truthful, Rogan was laughing about it first and he made me laugh, too. That line was pretty funny! If I had to use only a few words to describe the fairy Godmother I would use 'eccentric' and 'kind' because she was both in bucketfuls! She also was very amusing. It was nice how she still kept Ella's original dress, but put her own twist on it. And her dialogue when finding to find something that really said 'carriage' was also quite funny.

Madam will do!
I suppose I should also mention the Stepmother. She was a good bad guy, but I do think that she could have been a little bit better. I think I was expecting a bit more of a back-story as to why she was like how she was. That probably would not have worked, however, because the focus would have been taken off Ella and her story. She was funny though, with how she basically forced two gentleman to dance with her daughters. And how she was mouthing at them from across the dance floor to 'project'.

The stepsisters. I honestly didn't think that much more their performance. They were there because they were part of the story, but I didn't think they were fantastic.

Negativities: Okay so I'm just going to spell out a few things I would have liked better/wished they would have done.
1. Had a bit more on Kit. I know the story is about Ella but anyway. :P
2. A litte more of a back story on the stepmother
3. Perhaps a little bit more different from the scource material.

I just don't want anyone to think that I thought this was the best movie ever, but neither do I want it to sound like I didn't like it at all. I want to be as honest as possible. :)

So to end this post: I really enjoyed Cinderella. It was a visually stunning movie, with great effects (like the lizards and goose) good characters and I'm sure I will like it even more when I watch it again. True, it did leave me wanting a little more in the story, just a bit, but it was really good!
Well done Disney!!!

A Disney Birthday party.............

I'm not quite sure how to start this post.
I remember I was going to post this ages back, but then I got distracted and I needed permission to share some of the photos and you know, one thing led to another. So anyway enough rambling and on with the post! :D The Disney birthday party which Eden, Saxon and I attended was our very good friend Mabel's 16th birthday party. I remember her telling me at Homeschool group that us three were invited to it. I am so glad that she did because it was so much fun! The dress code was Disney fancy dress. Come as any character made by Disney.

For ages (as you've probably heard) I wanted to come as the cartoon Maid Marian. But the idea of finding a costume exactly like hers was not easy. I was also glad because someone else who I didn't know came dressed as the cartoon Robin Hood. :)

The day was fun. We played quite a few games. One of them was celebrity heads. Disney themed so that meant that you got popular Disney characters. Mine was Mickey Mouse. :) Tantor was also in our group. :) We split up into four teams. Mabel and I were on the same one. Sadly ours came second and we didn't get the chocolate prize. :( The wii was hooked up to a T.V. and you could play Disney Just-Dance on it. I tried doing 'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious' with Mabel's youngest sister but sadly I stepped on my gun and broke it. :(
We played 'How well do you know Mabel?' Which was basically a quiz with 30 questions on it. I teamed up with one of Mabel's friends who she had know for years and who I"d been looking forward to meeting. We won! :D I was rather proud that we did. :) We had pin the tail on Eeyore. I went pretty good with it but didn't win. :(
I actually can't remember what other games there were. There was a nice bit of mingling and te party food was very nice, too.

This was Mabel's birthday cake. As you can see, it is rather Disney-themed. :P
I suppose you're all wondering about the costumes, I mean after all I've talked about them before but never posted any pictures of them except Saxon's. Well here they are. I had permission to show you Mabel and her family's costumes, too. :)

Here is Eden as Esmeralda from the Hunchback of Notre Dame. She got one of the runner-up prizes for her costume. She definitely deserved it! I mean she was stressing about it the night before and only finished it late the night before. She was originally going to come as Alice in Wonderland but changed her mind. Honestly her costume is awesome! I'm so proud of her! :D

Another view of the cake.

This is Mabel's older sister. She had been planning her costume ahead of time for months. She came as Barbie from Toy Story 3. She even painted the heels pink. :) Oh, and that's a wig if you are wondering. :P

This is Mabel's younger brother. He came as Marty from Pirates of the Caribbean. There was actually quite a few people who came as people from POTC. We had Elizabeth, Angelica, and a random pirate from POTC 4.

This is me. Finally you can see my outfit! I'm Peggy Carter from Captain America!  As you can see, my gun is broken as I'm not holding it in the photo. I wish I'd gotten a couple of other more detailed photos of my outfit. But that's the general gist of it.  Mummy curled my hair and did my hair in Victory rolls. They were quite a nice hair style.

This is Mabel and her wonderful Belle dress! Isn't her outfit awesome!? She wore a corset and and then had trouble blowing out her candles. :)

This is Saxon as Walt Disney. He couldn't decide for ages who to come as then settled on Disney.  He actually sort of grew the moustache but coloured it black as all the boys in our family when they try to grow facial hair have ginger, so far. :)

This is Mabel's second youngest sister. She came as Mulan after watching the movie and totally loving it! :)

And this is Mabel's youngest sister. She is Rapunzel. :) There were actually three Rapunzel's at the party. :)

Mabel with her Mum and Dad. Her Dad came as Joe from Princess Diaries. I can't remember who her Mother came as.

Cutting the cake. As you can see Saxon photo-bombed. :D
The day was very fun and I was so glad I was invited! :D And to Mabel, because I'm sure you are going to read this: I'M SORRY IT TOOK SO LONG!!!!

God Bless

Frozen Vs Tangled from two different perspectives.

frozen-poster-cast-new (1)

There has been a lot of discussion in our house as to which of these Disney' movies are better. Some prefer F others T but today me and mt brother Rogan are doing a blog post on what we think is better in both films. Also take note, we are in the T team.

We'll start with the Princesses:
Rogan's Perspective :) (Vellvin adds comments now and then in red.)
Anna and Elsa- Vs Rapunzel (notice that there's only one princess in T instead of two because shes awesome enough to beat both from F)

Rapunzel- Has more character depth and is more naive and excitable.
she seems more open and happy than Elsa and a little bit more than Anna (that's probably a bit unfair to Elsa though) She is also more happy with life and have you seen the amount of chores she does every day? Very accomplished. Also I love how she grows through the film.
Elsa-I think  I did feel a bit sorry for Elsa, but I don't think she's the best roll model either, She was quiet and nice at the start but I don't like the whole 'breaking free thing' you are who you choose to be  and in saying that this is who you are now and stuff like that is Stupid. I like Elsa at the start at her coronation. Though I do like 'Let it Go' it can also seem like Elsa doesn't care about anyone anymore, it's all about her. I know she had a lonley childhood but things like 'No right, no wrong no rules for me' irkes me.
Anna- She is a bit impulsive and a little naive. She get's a bit confused with her feelings and get's reeled in like a sea bass (Sorry inside joke.) A great joke too. :) Anna just seems very tursting, in Rapunzel this is an advantage, in Anna it's not because she trusts' Hans and hes not one to be trusted, but serously we were a;; rather reeled in don't you think?

Vellvin's Perspective: (Rogan adds comments now and then in green).
Princes:
Kristoff vs. Flynn Ryder
Okay, well, in my opinion Kristoff just wasn't in it enough! And I was actually rather annoyed that he didn't sing a song with Anna, seriously! They couldn't do that could they, I mean, he's the Prince! Duh!
I do agree that he should have sung a song with Anna, but Anna sings a pretty good song with Prince Hans
( which we both love)
Kristoff was certainly sweet, kind and gentle, but how can he compete with swashbuckling Flynn Ryder and the mighty fry-pan? Sorry, couldn't resist. :P And Kristoff doesn't have a weapon and the fry pan with Flynn is interesting.

Flynn was in it from the start whereas Kristoff was there and gone and then he came back. So in a sense, he wasn't a secondary character like Flynn who was basically a main character, Flynn was basically the Elsa of Tangled. I think Kristoff  didn't have very much character at least not as much as Flynn who by the way is awesome.
I actually prefer Prince Hans over Kristoff, and PH seems to be in it more than Kristoff. Also, Flynn has this whole journey thought T, where he learns that what he thought he wanted wasn't what he did actually want, and he had this whole growth, and stopped being selfish and tried to get Rapunzel out of danger, seriously, he's pretty awesome! :D

Rogan's perspective on the Animals and fantasy creatures.
Sven- I admit I wasn't really touched by Sven but i think he grows a bit on you he's a bit dumb compared to Maximus. but he is quite loyal to Kristoff and is more friendly than Maximus or Pascal.
Maximus- i think Maximus is my favourite animal. He's a tough guy on the outside but sweet in his own way on the inside he also  loves apples and Sven likes carrots they both have healthy diets.
Pascal-BORING

Olaf- I didn't like Olaf that much to start with but like Sven he grew on me he is sweet when Anna is freezing.
he is very happy and care free and naive (my favourite word I know)  I didn't like his song to start with either but yet again it grew on me.
The Trolls-I think I was a bit disappointed with them at first because I thought the would be big and live in a cottage and there would be less of them at least that's what I imagined but I like them now and their song.

Vellvin's Perspective:
Story line: Tangled story-line is one full of fun and enjoyment, and the finale is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful and heartbreaking. And Mother Gothel falls out the window and everything is better.
Frozen is visually stunning, that's true, but it seemed shorter to me somehow, did anyone else get that feeling?
Photo-shopped I know :)
We could go on about the music, about the villains, but truth be told, we have had enough.
We have a few differences in opinion, but smoothly we are of the same opinion. This post is not to degrade Frozen. it's a good movie, and entertaining, we are just comparing it with Tangled and in our eyes, it's not as great, that's for sure. :)

Frozen: A review of sorts

So, I owe you all an apology. I said I would write this review a while back and well, here it is now, a few weeks later.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy it anyhow! Also, this review has spoilers. :)
Note that do not thinik that the trailer reflects the movie at all, because it doesn't. In fact compared to tge movie it is not even very 'tolerable I suppose'. :)

So, to date I've seen Frozen three times. Wow! That's humongous, before seeing Frozen I only went and saw something at the movies once. Anyway, that's kind of relevant, but irrelevant. I'm actually a wee bit sick of Frozen now, because I've seen it so much in such a short amount of time. But that doesn't mean that the movie (if you don't watch it that much) is great. When I watched Frozen for the first time I was a bit of a basher of it, I admit. After all, people had said that it was better than Tangled. Wait, Tangled? It was better than Tangled? How'd that work? Because Tangled happens to be one of my favourite Disney movies ever. And no one can beat Flynn Rider.
I love this. :)
Anyway this review is going to be a little shorter than usual, mostly because I've been stressing about it and I'm now wanting to get rid of it as soon as possible. I know that sounds  a bit mean, but I feel l;ike I can't blog about anything else, until I've done this.
Anyways!

Frozen is an adaptation of Hans Christian Anderson's 'The Snow Queen' now I don't know the storyline that well, but as usual, Disney added its customary flair of difference, but that's fine, I love Disney versions better than the original stories.

First off, the music is awesome! We have the entire soundtrack, and though I still love it, it is a step up from Tangled's music as well, besides the fact that it has so many more songs. My all time favourite is 'Love is an Open Door' it's very funny, and I love what Hans and Anna are doing while they sing it. Also, it reminded me of other classic Disney songs, like 'Be our Guest' because of all the different places and things going on.
Also, don't forget 'Let it go' and ummmm, well basically all the songs. Okay, even if you don't watch the movie, get the songs!
Frozen 2013 wallpaper

As for the characters, well, Sven was adorable I'm mean, totally adorable, I think having a pet Sven would be great, and at the finale when he grabs Kristoff and makes him understand that he NEEDS to go back to the castle. He's just a big sweety.

Olaf is a snowman who wants to see Summer. He also has the super-funny song 'In Summer' which I know off by heart. And he is so funny, too! 'Oh, look at that I've been impaled' and he really is a good character. My favourite bit with him is the 'Little been Unicorn' bit. And then when he lights the fire for Anna, and he starts melting, that's so nice. :)
\
Elsa is my favourite of the princesses, I don't know, maybe because her character is so interesting and that she sings 'Let it Go' also, don't you feel sorry for her, and I love her dress. And she just seems like such a complicated character, and it is great at the end to see how happy she is.

Anna is a great character, she's impulsive, she's funny, and she's a bit of a chatter-box. Also, we all love the 'hairbrush part' with Olaf. She always tries to do what is best but sometimes, she fails miserably.
Hans Frozen 2013 Disney HD Background

Kristoff is the 'prince' although he sells 'ice for a living' and he is rather sweet, especially when he is getting Anna back to Hans. I was a bit disappointed that he didn't really sing a song (except for Reindeer's are Better than People) which is hysterical as he also does Sven's voice. But, I really would have liked it if he had sung a song with Anna, or something. I mean, Hans did, and he's not even a good guy.
Hans is the bad guy, it's a bit of a shocker because he seemed so nice, but then when you find out, you think 'Right, I hate you.' It was great at the end where Anna punches him, so funny! But I admit, I think I like him better than Kristoff. :) That is before you find out he is bad.

Anyway, if you have not yet seen Frozen I highly recommend it, it's Disney which means it's pretty amazing, I'd better go, as you can see, it is a very short review, but that's fine. :)

A Slice of Pizza

Most people title posts like this, 'A Slice of Life' me, I thought it would be cooler to call it what it is now. After pizza is very agreeable, although it could have been a slice of fudge as well, so many delectable choices. :)
Anyway, so what's been happening with me? Hmm, lots of things really.
1. I finished House of Hades. Yes, that book that I was really really annoyed and disgusted with. Thank Goodness I finally have, because I hate to have books that I've only half read hanging around.
2. Watched the last two Hornblower episodes with Rogan. We both agree that Maria is actually a better character than the french girl (I can't even remember her name). And her making him gloves before he leaves. Well, we were both saying 'Aww' when she gave them to him. But we were also about ready to give him a talking to in Duty until the end...then it was much better though it is not one of my favourites.

And we both really like Mr. Bush.

3. Been going in the pool a lot. And enjoying it. It's been really nice as the last few days have been really hot about 40.
4. Watched the last episode of Season 3 of Sherlock. I actually didn't enjoy it that much as it had some stuff in it that I didn't think needed to be in there. My favourite part was the Sherlock and Mycroft moment when they are at their parents' house and their mother almost catches them smoking and Mycroft tells Sherlock that he really does care about him. Also the reconciliation between John and Mary, that was hands down, the best part out of it all. Out of the three I think that probably The Sign of Three was my favourite. I absolutely loved Sherlock's speech. And him organising the page boy and telling a friend of Marys that he had been dropped to casual friend was really funny. Also, it probably had the best mystery out of the three. I did love the first episode but the second is the best I think all round.

Dat speech.
I absolutely loved Sherlock's speech. And him organising the page boy and telling a friend of Marys that he had been dropped to casual friend was really funny. Also, it probably had the best mystery out of the three. I did love the first episode but the second is the best in all areas.

Also that cliff-hanger? Well, I'm certainly not as interested or emotionally surprised and upset like I was for Reichebach Fall. I mean, BBC confirmed Moriarty to be dead and he's got to be dead. Otherwise Sherlock will just turn into one of those stupid T.V. shows where there is the same bad guy over and over again. Also, not a two year wait please, a year, no more. That's all I ask.  Also, they've been planning seasons 4&5 one very excited girl here! :D

5. Been looking at my drafts. I've got about thirty-six of them and I really need to work on some of them.
6. I've also been making skirts for us girls. Mum also wants one, I've made one for me and Arwen and I've cut out and over-locked almost all of Moran and Myffwyn's skirts. Mum also wants one so busy, busy.
7. Getting excited for a sleepover which me and Eden have organised this Monday night, we are planning on watching movies and staying awake as long as possible, and then crashing. It will be interesting to see how long I last. :)
8. I've got a dead-line to finish TT but actually I haven't done very much reading of it. Hmph, anyway, but I am reading a really nice book by Chrisitne Pope which Mum got off Kindle for me. It's surprisingly more mature than I thought it would be, but I am loving reading it anyway. And I really love Lord Shaine, he's such a sweetie!
Isn't the cover gorgeous?
9. We celebrated Eden's 18th Birthday last Saturday. Her birthday is actually in July but there were some complications of getting a date that suited everyone. It was pretty exhausting, but nice, and everyone had to wear a mask. Me and Rogan also dressed up as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John H. Watson, though we didn't get any pictures and the trench coat, then suit coat, were really boiling so it didn't last long. I even had band-aids for nicotine patches and Rogan had a gun, so it was very fun. :) Also, Mum has a pink phone so I walked around with that a little. And we were trying to find a serial killer as well, that's why we were there, investigating.

10. I went and saw Frozen for the second time the other day, I'd already seen it once and then Saxon because he was going crazy as we were listening to the songs from it and quoting, wanted to go and see it, and he generously took Rogan and I along with him. As it turned out, we sat right down the front, it was very interesting as we always try and get the back seats, but the cinema was packed. Anyway, I'll hopefully have a post on Frozen up soon. I enjoyed it much more the second time rather than the first. Thank you Saxon for taking us!

Anyway, I'd better go. That's just an update of what's been going on, hopefully I'll post again soon, but yeah anyway, see you guys!

God Bless

Did you ever notice?

Did you ever notice that in Sleeping Beauty the Prince has a name and he talked? Did you ever notice that in Aladdin the Prince has a name and he talks? Did you ever notice that in Tangled the Prince has a name and he talks? did you ever notice that in the Little Mermaid (although I haven't watched it) that the Prince has a name and I'm not quite sure about talking (because I haven't watched it) Did you notice in Cinderella that the Prince has a name and he talks.
But here's the thing...................Did you ever notice that in Snow White and Beauty and the Beast that the Princes don't "Actually" have names?

Oops just checked on google and it said that the Prince's name was Adam!!! Wow!! Adam!!
But I don't think that Snow whites Prince ever has a name besides Prince. :)'
My favorite Prince's I think are Prince Phillip, the beast and Flynn Rider. :) :D
Did  you ever notice that some of the Princes are more main than others in their own stories?

Prince Charming hardly says anything and is in hardly any of the scenes either!!!
The Beast is more main than the "Prince" from Snow whiter for instance. Aladdin IS actually the main character in Aladdin. Flynn Rider is
(I think) about the same as Rapunzel as in main.
I don't think that Prince Eric is very main though. Tell me if I'm wrong but I'm not sure.
Well it was just something that occurred to me the other day.
P. s. I didn't mention the Prince from The Princess and the Frog because i haven't watched it and don't plan to and I didn't do Pocahontas because she didn't actually marry John smith and I didn't to Mulan either because I don't exactly count her as a Princess or Pocahontas. :)
